Overview

Podzol is a handmade tabletop game console and my first substantial electronics project. I learned Altium Designer while designing it.

Key features

  • Atmel ATmega32 microcontroller.
  • 128×64 monochrome display.
  • Battery power.
  • Support for two controllers at the same time.

The console comprises the main unit and controllers. The main double-sided PCB contains the microcontroller, 9 V power supply, display, and controller connectors. The controller was based on an existing Nintendo NES example and uses the same shift register.

Controller model

The firmware was developed in C++ with Atmel Studio. Source code is available on GitHub.
